Dear Members of The Senedd, and The Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee
I would just like to state that I fully support a complete ban of all types of snares in Wales.
I request that not only the use of snares be banned, but also the manufacture, possession, and sale of snares be completely illegal.
I understand that the pro-shooting lobby is encouraging the Welsh Government to consider allowing the use of so-called ‘humane’ snares. No snare can seriously be considered "humane", as any snare causes undue stress and often results in various forms of injury to the animal, including self-inflicted injury, and slow strangulation.
While these snares are apparently designed to neither kill nor harm foxes, studies show that welfare problems still remain with these devices, and on many occasions non-targeted animals are caught in them.
Caught animals (targeted of non-targeted) may remain trapped for an indefinite length of time before being set free, killed, or just dying.
Please give this matter serious consideration.
Thank you for your time.
Kind regards
Rose Shortland
